The Andrea Varangu Story

Andrea Varangu is a pastel & oil artist living in British Columnia, Canada. Her work is inspired by the rural landscapes and sparkling waterscapes that surround her country home and studio.

Andrea discovered pastel while on an art tour and has been obsessed with the tactile immediacy of the medium ever since. “You can dive right in with pastel, the colours are ready and waiting for you.” In her work you will see her fascination with the play of light on objects, the movement of bodies of water and with all those rich deep hues in her pastel trays.

Over the past few years, Andrea has been working increasingly with oil paints. While they both offer brilliant and rich hues, Andrea is loving her exploration of the differences between a wet and a dry medium. “Oils offer the ultimate ability to create exactly the palette you are looking for and in this way is a more flexible medium….change is always possible with oils”. Oils also allow her to show work that is not behind glass, and to work on much larger pieces.

Andrea is a Signature Member of Pastel Artists Canada and is an Active Member of The Federation of Canadian Artists.
